Welcome to the Santa Barbara Humane Society SBHS's front door Since 1887, we have provided service to the people and animal populations of Santa Barbara County, and we are proud to be one of the three oldest agencies in California dedicated to animal welfare.

The Humane Society occupies a five-acre site midway between Carpinteria and Gaviota, serving the community with a shelter, animal adoption services, a spay and neuter clinic, humane education center, boarding kennels, large animal holding center and corral, and inspection and rescue services.

Our staff is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, and professional in the hands-on care we provide for the animals. Coupled with our dedicated staff is a core group of helpful volunteers who assist us in providing "extra" comfort for the animals in our shelter. Last, but not least, are the thousands of members of the Santa Barbara Humane Society whose support allows us to provide the high level of care we give the animals. It is our hope and belief that all of us, together, will continue our outstanding support for this unique organization.

The Board of Directors and staff look forward to the continued success of helping animals, providing homes for pets, and being environmental partners with all creatures.
